When arriving in the Fort Polk area by air, the nearest major airport is the Alexandria International Airport which is located about 43 miles from the center of Fort Polk. Taxis and rental cars are available from the airport. No taxi fee will be charged if you can show a copy of your assignment orders. If arriving by car, take U.S. Highway 71 to the Main Gate which is located on Louisiana Avenue to the first red light on Mississippi Avenue and turn right. Building 1830 will be an immediate left turn onto the base. If military personnel are in need of temporary lodging, the Welsh Magnolia House is the main office for all temporary housing.
